INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN
After teaching high school Social Studies students for over 15 years, I transitioned to a new career as an instructional designer to support teachers. I am currently on the Wake Tech eLearning Support and Instructional Design team, which also includes educational technologists and accessibility specialists. We create and facilitate online professional development courses and work directly with instructors who request support. As an instructional designer, I focus on training instructors in learning theories and best teaching practices for online and hybrid courses. According to the University of Maryland Global Campus's webpage for its M.S. in Learning Design and Technology program (which I finished in 2022), instructional designers "use emerging technologies, learning analytics, and learning theory to design adaptive and personalized online learning experiences... [they] explore, develop, and integrate digital media, new pedagogical approaches, and online interactive resources to give students greater access to education and prepare them for success."
My final project in the LDT program was to create an online course module for a real client. The course I developed was for one of my employers, Public Schools First NC, on the theme of School Diversity in North Carolina. Before you sample the selected lessons from the module, you can view the Course Prospectus for an introduction.
